Wood blinds are an investment in your home that you'll want to keep in tip-top shape. Proper cleaning and maintenance keep them looking great for longer and prevent fading, cracking, and warping. You may ask yourself, what is the best way to clean wooden blinds? We have the answer! Regular dusting, spot cleaning, and routine deep cleanings are enough to keep your wooden blinds looking immaculate! Here at All About Blinds, Etc., in O'Fallon, Missouri, wooden blinds, such as Hunter Douglas Parkland® Wood Blinds, are popular with our customers. For this reason, we want to discuss further how to clean wooden blinds to keep them looking great for many years!
An accumulation of dust on wooden blinds can trap moisture and lead to warping or staining of the wood. It is even more of a concern in humid environments. Fortunately, regular dusting helps keep wooden blinds in excellent condition. When dusting, close the blinds and gently wipe each slat using a microfiber cloth or duster. Then, open and close them again so the opposite side faces you. Wipe again. You can also use a vacuum with a brush attachment, especially if pet fur and dander are in the equation.
Spot cleaning on an as-needed basis is required for wooden blinds to address issues such as fingerprints in playrooms, cooking residues in kitchens, or mildew in humid rooms. Don't use harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners that could damage the wood and the finish when spot cleaning. Instead, use a simple white vinegar solution.
Mix white vinegar with water in a spray bottle at a 1:1 ratio. This mildly acidic concoction will dissolve dirt and grime while keeping your wooden blinds looking beautiful. Vinegar is a non-toxic natural disinfectant, meaning it can kill bacteria and germs, but it is entirely safe for you, your family, and your pets.
Consider deep cleaning the wood blinds in your home every 3 to 6 months. This process can seem daunting, but after a few simple steps, your blinds will be like new:
